vessel states
For my installation at Project Row Houses, I collected the opinions of more
than 100 houstonians on issues of debate such as abortion laws and
opressive religious views, some were acquired through interviews while
others were pasted from community web blogs. These opinions were then
collaged into the surface of four site-specific sculptures depicting the
human body in a state of martyrdom and covered with plaster. During the
opening, the attendees were invited to use hammers to uncover the
messages and respond to them by writting in framed wall panels. A fifth
interactive sculpture entitled "S&M Cross" invited the attendees to get tied
up and blindfolded to enter a meditative state.
