Totem Pole for The Animal Kingdom

| | |

In 2009 I was selected to be the featured artist for Making A Mark,  at Texas Children’s Hospital. For this project  I invited more than 100 kids to make a drawing of their favorite animal or totem animal. Through several drawing sessions, the children’s  creations were collected and traced onto the surface of an 11 foot cylinder tower.  then cut with a plasma cutter at my studio  to create “Totem Pole for the Animal Kingdom.”  The names of the participants were cut into the base of the Totem Pole in a circular pattern.

It was an honor to work with such talented group of kids while introducing them to the medium of metal sculpture that I have come to love. Totem Pole was auctioned in 2010 benefiting the hospital and the couple that purchased it decided to donate it back to be on permanent view. Totem Pole lives on the 14th floor at Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.

Special thanks to Margot Perez, Carol Heron, The Periwinkle Foundation, all the kids and parents that participated and the many volunteers that worked with us..
